Presentation at the U10 Art Space: BUNA 3 is coming to Belgrade on May 9, at 6 pm

We are pleased to invite you to the presentation and promotion of the regional contemporary art project BUNA 3, which will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, starting at 6 p.m., at the U10 Art Space in Belgrade.

BUNA is a forum for contemporary visual and interdisciplinary art, founded in Varna in 2023, which, during its first two editions, brought together more than 300 artists from Bulgaria and abroad through numerous exhibitions, public space interventions, lectures, and performances. This year, BUNA is being realized for the third time as the largest platform for contemporary art in Bulgaria and is now expanding its scope to focus on the Balkans as a shared cultural space and an emerging dynamic center for contemporary art.

During its Balkan tour, the BUNA project team will present this year’s activities, provide information about the open call, and introduce the Balkan Contemporary Art Prize – a new award for contemporary art. The presentations in cities across the region aim to support artistic cooperation, mobility, and the connection of artists, curators, and institutions through the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences.

The presentation in Belgrade will cover:

  • the concept and goals of this year’s edition of the BUNA 3 project,
  • details of the Open Call for participation by individual artists and art collectives,
  •  a Q&A session, where attendees will have the opportunity to receive all relevant information about the application process,
  • and the Balkan Contemporary Art Prize, launched by The Singer–Zahariev Foundation.

The Singer–Zahariev Foundation, a private foundation based in Bulgaria and dedicated to long-term investment in contemporary art and cultural development in the region, was founded in 2020 by Kathrin Singer and Kamen Zahariev. Since then, they have actively supported the art scenes of Bulgaria and the Balkans through the awarding of grants and the promotion of artists and art initiatives that contribute to the development of regional identity and cultural exchange. On this occasion, the new prize for artists – The Balkan Contemporary Art Prize – will be publicly introduced for the first time. The prize, in the amount of €3,000, aims to support artists from Balkan countries, encourage cultural exchange within the region, build a bridge to the international art scene, and draw attention to authentic artistic practices emerging from this part of Europe. The call is open to all artists who are from one of the Balkan countries or represent the region through their work.

The presentation is open to all those interested in contemporary art in the Balkans.

Upcoming presentation dates across the region:

  • May 5 – Skopje / Faculty of Fine Arts / 6 p.m.
  • May 6 – Pristina / Rezidenca 17 / 6 p.m.
  • May 9 – Belgrade / U10 Art Space / 6 p.m.
  • May 17 – Bucharest / Atelierele Scânteia / time to be announced

*BUNA 3 is realized with the financial support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, the French Institute and the Embassy of France in Bulgaria, The Singer-Zahariev Foundation, and Varna Municipality.
