The Mangelos Award is named after the significant artist, pioneer of conceptual art practice, and art historian from the former Yugoslavia – Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos. Presented since 2002, the award represents a unique form of support for young artists working in the field of contemporary visual art. It is intended for artists under the age of 35 in recognition of a distinctive and outstanding multi-year artistic practice on the Serbian art scene, characterized by a coherent critical and aesthetic approach and engagement.

Finalists selected in the first round of jury deliberations receive mentorship support from professionals in the field of contemporary visual art, while the award winner is granted a two-month residency at Residency Unlimited in New York, as well as support for the production of a solo exhibition or artwork (with a requirement for public presentation) following their return from the residency.

The award is organized by the Ilija & Mangelos Foundation from Novi Sad and Remont – Independent Artists Association from Belgrade, with the support of Trust for Mutual Understanding.

The award is part of the international YVAA (Young Visual Artists Awards) network.
