Authorship, Language, and the Sign

This week, the Program Working Group launches a series of open meetings as part of the thematic section “Authorship, Language, and the Sign”. Together, we will explore the position of the author, the role of language and other signifying systems in art, and the possibilities and limitations of these practices. Through conversation, the exchange of experiences, and collective reflection, we aim to open up questions of authorship as a process, language as a means of shaping meaning, and the sign as a point of encounter between artistic practice and its social context.

Starting from the idea that collective reflection can directly inspire collective action, we envision these meetings as a space from which ad hoc programs, rapid responses, artistic actions, and interventions will emerge in dialogue with the theme. Rather than following predefined formats, the meetings will serve as a space for experimentation, collaborative idea-making, and the development of program content to be realized throughout the thematic section.

The meetings will take place on Wednesday, 29 July, and Thursday, 30 July, starting at 7 pm.

As part of the thematic section “Authorship, Language, and the Sign,” we will also open the zine exhibition “Zini da ti kažem (A Zine Exhibition)“ on Friday, 31 July, at 6 pm.

Zines are handmade booklets, notebooks, or magazines of an artistic and/or informational nature that anyone can create—and we’re turning them into an exhibition! Come and discover the zines submitted through our open call, as well as collective zines we assembled from the materials we received, including texts, photographs, paintings, and drawings. You might even find inspiration to create your own zine.
