TECHNOLOGY, CONSUMERISM, AND POST-TRUTH

What are the limits of technology in shaping our reality? What dangers arise from the age of post-truth, consumerism, and the endless flow of information that, through algorithms, relentlessly competes for our attention? Is the progress promised through technological advancement and the development of artificial intelligence a utopia reserved for the wealthiest consumers, or the foundation of a new class society? Where did the free space of the internet disappear, and when did surveillance begin? Ultimately, is technological progress also a question of freedom?

The works gathered within the thematic section “Technology, Consumerism, and Post-Truth” begin with one central question: how does the digital environment shape contemporary sensibilities and everyday experience? Through diverse artistic approaches, the participating artists examine the attention economy, algorithmic mediation, fast-content culture, and the production of truth, suggesting that technology is not a neutral infrastructure but an instrument for constructing reality in the hands of the most powerful. Today, it increasingly functions as a tool for maintaining existing structures of power and class divisions.

On Wednesday, 5 August, at 7:00 PM, the thematic section “Technology, Consumerism, and Post-Truth” will open with a multimedia exhibition featuring works by Kristina Lazić, Bojana Popović, Lola Popović, Jelena Rendulić, Bogdan Spirić, Mirko Kekić, Ivanja Todorović, and Đorđe Tufegdžić. The exhibition will remain open until 10 August and can be visited daily from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Alongside the exhibition, the space will host a diverse public program throughout the week, inspired by technology and both its promises and its pitfalls.

Thursday, 6 August
8:00 PM – TanC (Slovakia), Zone of Feelings (site-specific performance): A performance exploring our personal experience of distance, inviting us to choose whether to feel or not, whether to observe or not, whether to open ourselves or not. Proximity and distance shape the way we experience presence and determine the meaning of every touch. Beyond physical experience lies an invisible thread—a connection that transcends the senses and unites two beings in a shared moment of awareness. It is a moment in which distance not only defines what we feel but also reveals a silent dialogue of energies, a subtle resonance between bodies and minds. Everyday situations, seemingly unchanged, contain multiple layers that constantly move through time and space. Transformation occurs the moment we direct our attention toward one of these layers—a living, sensitive organism that pulses and invites contact. At that point, boundaries begin to dissolve, and the space between people becomes a place of encounter, where an intangible yet deeply felt connection emerges.

Friday, 7 August
7:00 PM – Goran Đorđević, lecture AI Apocalypse followed by a film screening: One of the leading figures of conceptual art in Yugoslavia, Goran Đorđević will give a lecture on the topic of the AI apocalypse. Since 1985, he has described himself as a “former artist”, continuing to critically examine the history of art and the institutions of the art system through a range of projects. As the creator of the Argos Eye website, he explores the relationships between art, biology, science, and artificial intelligence. His research focuses on perception, memory, consciousness, the origins of life, and the evolution of intelligence, approaching artificial intelligence as a new epistemological phenomenon.
9:30 PM – Screening of Dragonfly Eyes (2017), directed by Xu Bing: The first feature film by Chinese artist Xu Bing is composed entirely of surveillance camera footage sourced from the internet. Rather than relying on conventional filmmaking, Xu constructs a fictional narrative from existing recordings, telling the story of a young woman searching for her place in contemporary China.

Saturday, 8 August
9:00 PM – Stefanija Arsovska and Iva Damjanovski, performance “I Can’t Exist Alone with Myself”: Student nomadism and musical optimism have brought together these young artists, who tell the story of female initiation as a painful process of personal transformation.

Sunday, 9 August
5:00 PM – Supa FGC Tournament #15: A day dedicated to fighting game enthusiasts, featuring tournaments in Tekken, Super Smash Bros., and Street Fighter. Register through the link in the bio of the Instagram profile @supasmashturnir.

Monday, 10 August
7:00 PM – Screening of Reels/Shorts from a Newly Created Profile: Each Reel or Short will be played from beginning to end without skipping, allowing the recommendation algorithm to unfold without interventions such as skipping or manually selecting individual videos.
